1910.

Gentlemen: -

292

with reference to your letter of the 5th instant

respecting the importation of Formosan Sugar into liongkong,

I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to state that only

Japanese candied sugar is declared to be bounty-fed by

the International Sugar Commission and that no special

measures have so far been taken by the Commission against

Formosan as distinct from Japanese, sugar generally.

Enquiries are being made for the purpose of ascertaining

whether there is any legislation in force in Hongkong

prohibiting the importation of sugar of any description

from Japan.

1 80,

Gentlemen,

Lessrs. Czarnikow and Company,

29, Mincing Lane,

E.C.

Your most obedient,

humble Dervant,

(Signed) W. Langisy,
